At Valo Motion, we're looking for an Industrial Designer ready to work hands-on to innovate and develop our physical products – enhance old and create new – for mixed-reality gaming. Your creative and technical expertise will play a crucial role in bringing our next-generation products to life and refining our existing offerings.

What is the role and who would you be working with?

As an Industrial Designer, you will lead the physical design of our products, working hands-on from prototyping new ideas to selecting materials and components for production. We are expanding and developing new products while also enhancing our globally loved products like ValoClimb, ValoArena, and ValoJump. 

In this role, you’ll get to combine design and engineering skills! You will participate in all stages of our product development, from conceptualization to hands-on prototyping and final production, including conducting research, analyzing user preferences, and creating visual representations or CAD designs. Your aim will be to improve usability, aesthetics, and overall user experience while ensuring commercial viability and speed to market.

‍✅ Your main responsibilities: 

• Lead the design of physical products and ensure our products are not only visually appealing and user-friendly but also highly functional. 

• Participate in new product development from hands-on rapid prototyping, through designing for scalable manufacturing to product launch and production. Your ability to innovate will be crucial in bringing next-generation gaming products to market.
• Organize cross-functional collaboration and work closely with development, production, and marketing/sales teams to ensure product success. 

In addition to the main responsibilities, a part of your job will be to: 

• Contribute with the team to manage product details, including installability, documentation, and other hardware-related aspects.
• Support the continuous development of the hardware in existing products.

• 70% of your time: Develop new products that push the boundaries of what's possible in mixed-reality gaming.
• 30%: Enhance current products, ensuring they remain cutting-edge and competitive in terms of visuality and functionality.

You would be part of our product development team led by Joni Vähämäki. As said, this role is highly collaborative as the development, manufacturing, marketing, and sales teams all are working for the same big goal – to get people moving around the world and have fun while doing it! That’s also our ethos at Valo Motion: we are serious about fun. Our team of skilled professionals with versatile backgrounds together create a supportive and innovative work environment. BTW, our internal language is English so fluency in that is a must for this role!

Things you need in order to thrive and succeed in this role:

• Proficiency in product design, particularly in the development of physical products with digital features or components.
• Hands-on experience in building physical product prototypes and rapid prototyping.
• Background in creating new product concepts or designs, particularly in physical products and their usability and functionality.
• A creative yet systematic approach to design processes.
• Strong understanding of usability principles and user experience design.
• Experience in transitioning prototypes into production.

Here’s what you can expect from our recruitment process in detail: 

1. Our recruiter Saara from TalentBee will be your main contact and keep you updated on the process. If you have any questions, you can email saara@talentbee.io.
2. First, you'll have a 30-minute call with Saara. After that, you'll meet your Team Lead Joni and/or our CEO Raine. Then, there will be a portfolio review where we evaluate your past experiences and designs and you’ll get to do a small self-evaluation task.
3. If your skills match our needs, you will receive a design task! You get to meet the team at the office. This part includes a 15-minute presentation of your task to the team who you’d be working with. 
4. After our discussions, if we both agree we’re a good fit, we’ll make you a job offer!
